Who Needs Evaluation?

Evaluation (establishing equivalence of educational institutions, degrees and diplomas between different countries) is essential if a person who completed part or all of his/her education abroad wants to continue his/her studies in the United States . This type of evaluation lists each subject one has completed, the equivalent U.S. semester/credit hours, and provides a calculated grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.

American employers tend to closely examine a potential employee's educational background, especially if the applicant comes from a foreign country. Resumes are useful, but often fall short of conveying the full extent of education abroad.

One is never sure whether the degrees listed on the resumes are valid. Diplomas issued by foreign higher educational establishments rarely state the degree awarded. There is also no information about the school's accreditation.

In many cases, the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services ( BCIS ) require evidence that a candidate for certain types of visas holds at least a bachelor's degree. In some cases the BCIS recognizes job experience as having an academic equivalent. Therefore if a candidate lacks a university degree but can show many years of responsible experience, evidence of special accomplishments, such as awards and publications, this can be taken into consideration in evaluation reports. Favorable results strengthen the case significantly.
